Ferrari replaced the F355 line of cars in 1999 with a completely new model: the 360 Modena. Utilizing a radical, new all-aluminum spaceframe, the 360 Modena was not only nearly 30% lighter than its predecessor, but it was also 40% stiffer. This much improved chassis was then clothed in a much curvier Pininfarina body and was powered by a new Tipo F131 3.6-L V-8 engine that featured a flat-plane crank with titanium connecting rods that produced 395 HP.
Power from this new engine was transmitted through a Formula 1-developed 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox that benefited from steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a computer-controlled, electro-hydraulically operated single-plate clutch that could launch the 360 from zero to 60 MPH in 4.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 183 MPH. At the 2000 Geneva Auto Show, Ferrari introduced a spider version of the 360, which was the Italian manufacturer’s 20th road-going convertible ever produced. The new 360 Spider included an electrically operated soft top that would completely stow below the rear deck and larger side air intakes to feed the V-8 engine.
In total, there were 8,800 Modenas and 7,565 spiders produced from 1999 to 2005. This 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena is finished in metallic blue with a charcoal leather interior and shows just 34,172 miles on the odometer. The finer mechanical details of this 360 Spider include its limited-slip differential and power disc brakes with silver calipers, while Daytona-style seats, aluminum pedal dress-ups, air conditioning, a CD stereo and power windows, locks and mirrors add to the interior amenities.
