Dodge entered the new “personal luxury class” sweepstakes in 1962 with the Polara 500. Based on the new compact Dart, the Polara 500 bore the cleanest styling treatment of that body style, the most well-appointed interior and a choice of powerful engines ranging from the baseline 361 CI V-8 all the way up to a hand built 413/420 HP Max Wedge that was intended strictly for the drag strip.
Attractively finished with a White and Red interior, White power top and matching tonneau cover, this Vermillion Red Polara 500 convertible is distinguished by the 500-specific Blacked-out front grille, interior-keyed “color sweep” upper body and rear side accents, “Polara 500” badges and wheel covers with spinners in the shape of Dodge's new triangular, three-pointed emblem. The immaculate engine compartment is home to the optional 383 CI engine equipped with dual exhaust and mated to a push-button Torqueflite automatic transmission with assists from power steering and brakes. Two-tone bucket seats and a locking center console were also exclusive to the Polara 500.
