The Dodge Demon in its first rendition was a brand-new fastback Dodge that arrived in 1971, and the highly refined example here is based on that inaugural release. Known as “Demonic” by its builders, this car blends vintage design with late-model technology and is a one-of-a-kind custom creation. Completed by Vintage Hot Rod Shop in St. Charles, Missouri, this striking machine made its formal debut only recently, at the 2017 SEMA show at the IHI Turbo display, where it was designated to showcase what the company had created for the supercharged 6.2L/707 HP Hellcat engine. In fact, at this time this IHI Demon Turbo blower is believed to be the only one not mounted to a Challenger.
The project further benefits from a K&N cold-air intake, and the engine bay is beautifully detailed as well. The modern powerplant is backed by a Gearstar 4L85E 4-speed automatic transmission and a braced Chrysler 8 ¾ rear end with coilover shocks, a Strange rear center section, and 4.88:1 gearing. The car has further benefited from Wilwood disc brakes, and to allow the engine to cleanly fit into this vintage vehicle, a Magnum Force front suspension layout has also been adapted. This car features a trunk-mounted fuel cell and has a low, nasty stance that denotes its potential.
The restyling cues selected help give the impression of this car being almost modern, with unique headlamp frames, a custom grille, AAR-type hood-scoop design, light brightwork touches and exclusive badging. The modern Demon logo developed for the updated version of this model is seen in various locations as well. The exterior is covered in green with factory-style blackout areas done in a deeper shade, which extends to the roof. Inside, bucket seats, a well-executed dash layout with round-face gauges, booted floor shift and spartan appointments are all in black. This car rides on custom 5-spoke wheels with low-profile wide front tires and wider rear versions, all treaded.
Already a showpiece vehicle, this wildly custom build is ready for new ownership.
