Following a two-year comprehensive restoration from 2015 to 2017, this 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible has been renewed to an impressive, upgrade-enhanced state. Changes to Chevrolet’s body designs were extensive that year, which would herald the debut of the Impala nameplate. Here, power comes from a rebuilt 348 CI V-8 W-series big-block Chevrolet engine that was bored 0.030 over and has a freshened bottom end. There is a new cam, valve lifters and timing gear set, plus reworked heads and a rebuilt Rochester 4-barrel carburetor. A new Desert Cooler radiator has been added, too.
Behind this went a rebuilt Turbo 350 automatic transmission with a new flywheel and torque converter, while the 3.36 ratio differential was also rebuilt. This car has power front disc brakes with new components throughout and a rebuilt power steering pump with new control valve and power steering cylinder. The underside is detailed and uses many new components as well, including shocks, springs, the exhaust, driveshaft and U-joints. The Silver Blue poly exterior paint blends perfectly with its new factory tri-color interior featuring Fathom Blue paint.
The new convertible top uses new weather stripping, pump, hoses and lift cylinders, while the interior has carpet, door and quarter panels matched by C.A.R.S. Upgrades include the Vintage Air and a new AM/FM pushbutton radio and speakers from Crutchfield functioning with a new rear radio antenna. There is new body wiring coupled to new headlights, tail lights, interior lights, dash lights and a dimmer switch, and even a new ignition switch. All of the outside trim is either new or rechromed, as are the locks and latches. Dress-ups here include new tinted windows and windshield, new fender skirts and even a restored, original 1958 North Carolina license plate.
To complete the look are five new Coker P215/75R14 radial whitewall tires mounted on steel wheels that have reworked hubcaps with new spinners, with a jack and new floor mat in the trunk. Finally, a worksheet for the restoration will accompany this Impala.
