Starting in 1970, Chevrolet offered a new ZR-1 option package on the C3 Corvette, when purchased in conjunction with the LT-1 engine option. This rare, high-performance option included solid lifters, heavy-duty 4-speed transmission, power brakes, an aluminum radiator and a revised, high-performance suspension system. Only 58 ZR-1-equipped Corvettes were sold that first year. In the model years that followed, the ZR-1 package continued to be synonymous with Corvette exclusivity and high-performance.
