The 1930s were a period of bold growth for Cadillac, which by 1938 offered a total of 62 different body styles and V-8, V-12 and V-16 engines. That same year a new model was introduced on the low-priced 60 series chassis and abruptly dropped its V-12 powered line, which would soon be followed into oblivion by the V-16s. By 1941, Cadillac was perfectly positioned as America’s luxury carmaker of choice, ahead of Lincoln, Chrysler and Packard, all of whom could no longer afford to build cars that could compete.

A new “entry-level” Cadillac was introduced in the Harley Earl/Bill Mitchell-designed form of the elegant Series 62, and if that was what the division defined as entry level, it was fine with Cadillac buyers, who bought over 5,000 in 1940 and an amazing 24,734 in 1941. The Series 62’s sleek torpedo-style body boasted a low-profile hood, pontoon-shaped fenders, an egg-crate front grille and integrated headlights, a raked two-piece windshield, sloping trunk, fender skirts with Cadillac emblems and tastefully designed brightwork.

The styling was classic-era Cadillac at its best, especially in the convertible version, which employed a power-operated top and possessed the grandeur of an open limousine. This 1941 Cadillac Series 62 convertible was once part of the famed Jim Rogers Collection in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it typifies the aura that characterized that collection. Black with a Black top and sumptuous Red leather interior, it is powered by Cadillac’s excellent 346 CI monoblock V-8 engine rated at 135 to 150 HP, here with a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission.

The most desirable of the 1941 Series 62 Cadillacs, its color theme carries over into the Black top boot with Red piping and Red painted wheels with wide Whitewalls and full wheel covers.
