With an odometer reading just over 16,500 miles, this 1976 Cadillac Deville Sedan presents exquisitely. Sold new by Wallace Motor Company in Salisbury, North Carolina, it is finished in Calumet Cream with a Buckskin vinyl roof and features a Light Buckskin interior upholstered with Manhattan Velour and leather bolsters. Powered by the 500 CI V-8 engine with an automatic transmission, it rolls on steel wheels with full-diameter stainless hubcaps and whitewall tires.
Featuring an eight-way power driver’s seat, air conditioning, cruise control and auto-dimming headlights, passengers revel amid various other luxuries like an AM/FM stereo and a CB radio, a power trunk release, power windows, power locks and a power antenna among other amenities. Fitted with chrome front and rear bumpers with gray and white rubberized trim and front bumper guards, twin sideview mirrors, rear fender skirts and the original, large-scale Wreath and Crest Cadillac hood ornament, this is an excellent example of the end-of-an-era.
For 1977, Cadillac and all other GM divisions would introduce an entirely new lineup of full-size models featuring smaller, lighter bodies and chassis, and smaller engines in an attempt to curtail emissions and conserve fuel. Gone would be the open center section side windows, the doors engineered with window frames and a B-pillar prominently jutting between the beltline and the roof, the once commanding wheelbase and width reduced to that of a large economy car. Interestingly, toward the end of the 1976 model year, despite a recession percolating in the economy, buyers scouted out these final edition, large-scale Cadillacs to capture their magic and enjoy for as long as possible.
While length and width would return, they would not return to the scale of these 1970s examples and the open center sections would be gone seemingly forever.
