One of only 839 produced for 1958, this Buick Limited convertible is a piece of General Motors, Buick and television history known as “Wells Fargo.” This Buick was designed and built by Buick exclusively for western television star Dale Robertson, well-known for his roles in television shows such as “Tales from Wells Fargo” and “Iron Horse.” Robertson starred in more than 60 titles throughout his career. Buick was the title sponsor for “Tales from Wells Fargo” and customized the topline model for Robertson in a cowboy theme that would likely be every western enthusiast’s dream. Buick showed the car at various events around the country, after which, the division gifted it to Robertson.
He drove the car on a promotional tour across the U.S. and decided he liked it enough to keep it, driving it regularly for about 30 years, before it passed through the care of several esteemed collectors. Finished in Glacier White, the Buick is fitted with decorative, solid walnut panels on both rear quarter panels that are appointed with chrome lettering reading, “Wells Fargo.” The “V” emblem on the front of the hood has been subtly adorned with a longhorn steer’s head, and the interior was revised with natural Jersey calfskin carpeting and Danish calf leather upholstery with hand-tooled leather inserts on the seats and door panels.
A custom center console is fitted with twin Winchester lever-action carbine repeater rifles, and the door panels feature revolver holsters. Powered by a 364/300 HP V-8 engine and the Flight Pitch Dynaflow automatic transmission, the Limited is equipped with power steering, power brakes, power windows, a factory clock, 6-way power seat, the Autronic Eye, a Wonderbar radio and factory air conditioning. It rides on Air Poise suspension and wide whitewall tires complemented by one-off special wheel covers.
