The sensation of the 1997 Tokyo Auto Show, the BMW Z07 was received so enthusiastically that the German factory decided to press ahead with a production version: the Z8. For the most part the Z8 remained remarkably faithful to the original concept, retaining the 507-like twin-nostril front grille and distinctive front-wing vents. A period-style interior had been one of the Z07's most remarked upon features, and that too made it into the Z8.
The Z8's body panelling and spaceframe chassis were fabricated in lightweight and corrosion resistant aluminium, while the 32-valve 4,941cc V8 engine, shared with the M5 saloon, was built by BMW's Motorsport division. With 400bhp on tap, the Z8 raced to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds and only the built-in rev limiter stopped it from exceeding 250km/h (155mph). Power reached the run-flat tyres via a Getrag six-speed manual gearbox. Needless to say, the Z8 also came with all the modern appurtenances one would expect of a flagship model: traction control, stability control, front and side air bags, GPS navigation, climate control and power operation of the seats, steering wheel and convertible hood all being included in the package.
The fact that the Z8 was a low-volume model assembled, for the most part, by hand, enabled BMW to offer customers considerable freedom in personalising their cars. Further enhancing its appeal to collectors, the factory announced that a 50-year stockpile of Z8 parts would be maintained. Despite a (US) launch price of over $128,000, initial demand was so high that a bidding war broke out, with many Z8s selling for well in excess of that figure. By the time production ceased in 2003, 5,703 of these fabulous cars had been built.
The Z8 we offer is one of only 916 examples produced in the striking Titansilver/Schwartz colour scheme. Delivered new in May 2001, the car was sold to its first owner in Munich, Germany in October that same year. The Z8 remained in Munich until its second owner (an architect based in Paris) acquired it and registered it in that city, with 96,000 kilometres showing on the odometer. The French owner kept the car for two years and sold it to the current vendor in 2009 at 119,000 kilometres. In January 2010, Elite Motor BMW in Barcelona, installed the BMW Performance Package (a upgrade for the front suspension recommended by the BMW Z8 US Club and designed and sold by BMW Munich).
On 30th September 2014 Barcelona Premium (official BMW agents) changed the engine cylinder block at 156,748 kilometres after scratches had been observed on the cylinder liners. The cost of the work was €16,663.88 and BMW met part of the cost (see invoice on file).
The current odometer reading is around 178,500 kilometres (with fewer than 21,500 kilometres covered since the engine rebuild). Included in the sale is the hardtop with its original support; hardtop fabric cover; leather trim cover (for a tidier appearance when the hard top is removed); headrest wind protector, GPS (Spain, France and Germany) and the three original Z8 keys.
The car is in excellent condition and is sold with its original BMW Motorola Micro Tag cell phone; leather tool kit with its original gloves; invoices and all original books; and a Spanish registration document. The car will be freshly serviced by BMW before the sale (invoice of €575 in file).

- Entretien récent pour la vente Sensation du Salon de Tokyo 1997, la Z07 reçut un accueil si enthousiaste que BMW prit la décision d'en tirer une version de série, la Z8. Globalement, la Z8 restait très proche de son modèle, conservant la calandre à double naseaux et les extracteurs d'ailes évoquant la 507. L'intérieur au style rétro faisait partie des traits les plus remarquables de la Z07 et se retrouvait également sur la Z8.
Les panneaux de carrosserie et le châssis tubulaire de la Z8 étaient construits en aluminium, léger et résistant à la corrosion, tandis que le V8 32 soupapes de 4 941 cm3, identique à celui de la berline M5, était construit par la division Motorsport de BMW. Avec ses 400 ch, la Z8 abattait le 0 à 100 km/h en 4,7 secondes et seul le limiteur électronique l'empêchait de dépasser les 250 km/h. La puissance arrivait aux pneumatiques anti-crevaison via une boîte manuelle Getrag à six rapports.
Inutile de préciser que la Z8 recevait tous les équipements qu'on était en droit d'attendre sur le vaisseau amiral de la marque, contrôle de motricité et de stabilité, airbag frontaux et latéraux, système de navigation par GPS. L'air conditionné et le réglage des sièges, du volant et la manœuvre de la capote électriques faisaient aussi partie des équipements de série.
Le fait que la Z8 ait été un modèle fabriqué en petite série, assemblée en grande partie à la main, permettait à BMW de proposer aux clients une grande liberté dans la personnalisation de leur voiture. Pour attirer une clientèle de collectionneurs, BMW annonçait qu'un stock de pièces détachées de Z8 serait conservé pendant 50 années. Malgré un prix de lancement de plus de 128 000 $ (aux États-Unis), la demande était telle qu'une surenchère se fit jour, de nombreuses Z8 se vendant bien au-dessus de ce tarif. Lorsque la production prit fin en 2003, 5 703 de ces fabuleuses automobiles avaient été construites.
La Z8 que nous proposons est l'un des 916 exemplaires produits dans cette remarquable livrée argent Titane/noir. Livrée neuve en mai 2001, la voiture fut vendue à son premier propriétaire à Munich, en Allemagne, en octobre de la même année. La Z8 est restée à Munich jusqu'à ce que son second propriétaire (architecte à Paris) l'achète et l'immatricule dans son département, avec 96 000 km au compteur. Le propriétaire français a gardé la voiture deux ans, avant de la céder au vendeur en 2009 avec 119 000 km. En janvier 2010, Elite Motor BMW de Barcelone, lui a installé le pack Performance BMW (une modification de la suspension avant, conçue et vendue par BMW Munich et recommandée par le club BMW Z8 américain).

Le compteur affiche aujourd'hui environ 178 500 km (dont moins de 21 500 ont été effectués depuis la reconstruction du moteur). Le hardtop est inclus dans la vente avec son support d'origine, la protection de hardtop en tissu, le couvre-tonneau en cuir (pour une meilleure présentation lorsque le hardtop est absent), l'appui-tête anti-remous, GPS (Espagne, France et Allemagne) et les trois clés originales de la Z8.
La voiture est en excellent état, vendue avec son téléphone mobile original BMW Motorola Micro Tag, la trousse à outils en cuir avec ses gants d'origine, les factures et les livrets d'origine, ainsi que ses papiers d'immatriculation espagnols. La voiture aura été révisée par BMW peu avant la vente (facture de 575 € dans le dossier).
