This 2001 BMW Z8 is finished in Titanium Silver Metallic over a black leather interior. The Z8 has an aluminum chassis and body and uses a 4.9-liter 32-valve V8 engine that develops 400hp and 370 ft/lbs of torque. This engine, known internally as the S62, was built by the BMW Motorsport subsidiary and was shared with the E39 M5. The engine was located behind the front axle to provide the car with a 50/50 weight distribution. The factory claimed a 0-62 mph time of 4.7 seconds; Motor Trend magazine achieved 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.2 seconds. Road & Track measured the car's lateral grip at .92.

Car and Driver magazine also tested the car and found that it outperformed the contemporary benchmark Ferrari 360 Modena in three important performance categories: acceleration, handling and braking. It was designed by Henrik Fisker (who later designed the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage) and overseen by Chris Bangle (Chief of Design for BMW, Rolls and MINI). It was supposed to reference BMW's most famous roadster from the 1950s, the 507, and it did this with its minimalistic design and a powerful V8 under the hood.
