In October 2000 the M3's third iteration arrived following the introduction of the E46 series in 1998. On this occasion, though, there would be no saloon version, the new M3 being available only as a Coupé or Convertible. The power unit was BMW's 3.2-litre S54-type six-cylinder engine producing 338bhp, while there was a choice of two transmissions: six-speed manual Getrag or SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) that used an electro-hydraulically actuated clutch (no clutch pedal) to shift the Getrag's six gears. Shifts were made via the conventional gear lever or alternatively by paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
Road and Track magazine declared that the 2006 M3 with the SMG transmission was its favourite sports car of all time. To satisfy Germany's vocal road-safety lobby, top speed was limited to 'only' 155mph (250km/h), though it was suggested that, free of restrictions, a maximum of around 170mph (270km/h) would be achievable.
A desirable manual transmission model, this immaculate M3 (E46) coupé was supplied via BMW Crewe (Blue Bell) on 31st March 2003 and has been owned by the same family from new. A copy of the original order form is on file showing that the car was delivered finished in Titanium Silver with black nappa leather interior and equipped with a front centre armrest, Harman Kardon hi-fi, and M Double Spoke 8/9.5Jx19" wheels. The car has been serviced exclusively by BMW Crewe and is usually MoT'd there too. SORN'd between 2004 and 2013 (paperwork on file) and regularly taxed since then, it has covered a trifling 3,075 miles only and is presented in 'like new' condition.
In the last 15 years it has never been out in the rain. As well as the aforementioned order form, the car comes with a file of MoTs; a V5C document; MoT to November 2025; and its full book pack including the stamped service book recording six services between April 2003 and October 2023, the last at 3,022 miles. A rare opportunity.
