The 1992 Bentley Turbo R personifies the ultimate high-performance sedan of its model year. An opulent luxury car of its era, this example is powered by a turbocharged 6.75L V-8 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission and it’s finished in classic white with a tan-colored leather interior. A long-wheelbase, left-hand drive variant, this Bentley is equipped with the luxury features expected in a Bentley motorcar including power windows, doors and locks, self-leveling suspension, fold-down rear tray tables, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and chrome-plated, 15-inch alloy wheels.
The Bentley is equipped with an aftermarket Sony CD stereo, the air condition system has been recharged, and recent work included rebuilding the distributor and replacing the timing belt, fuel-injection EHA valve, oil-pressure sender and spark plugs, in addition to tightening a hydraulic suspension bleeder and refilling the system From post-World War II and into the mid-1980s, Bentley did little to distinguish itself from Rolls-Royce other than a different grille and a slightly less expensive price tag—not enough to captivate the enthusiasm of the luxury car market. However, all of this changed in 1985 with the introduction of the Bentley Turbo R.
The car was fitted with a large turbocharger that vastly increased its performance both in terms of acceleration and a top speed of 135 MPH. Its soft suspension was reengineered for exceptional road holding while still maintaining a supple ride quality. The Bentley Turbo R was an instant success, and it ultimately continued production through 1999. It created its own niche. It was often referred to as a “gentleman’s muscle car” and was respected and revered by a wide cross-section of the upper-crust car enthusiast crowd such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Jaguar, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz owners. Despite its hefty weight of 5,400 pounds, the Bentley R was fast, agile and responsive.
Additionally, its world-class craftsmanship and build quality were evident throughout with features like burled walnut interior trim, Connolly leather and Wilton wool carpeting. In 1992, a finer motorcar was simply not available.
