This 2001 Bentley Arnage Red Label hails from California and boasts a robust 6.75 liter V-8 engine sporting two turbochargers. When released to the public, this model held the title as the most powerful sedan on the market with a 400 horsepower wallop. The Arnage Red Label would sprint from 0-60 in the mid 5-second range and gallop to a governor-limited top speed of 155 MPH. In other words, Porsche 911 Carrera territory in a 5,000-pound suit. It went against the grain using the venerable 6.75 liter engine instead of a newer turbocharged BMW unit and was styled in a sporty, even gutsy motif.
The Arnage Red Label proved as rebellious as it could be and the combination of the old school engine with modern performance was intoxicating. The late 1990s proved to be tumultuous time for both Bentley and its sister brand, Rolls-Royce. The companies were owned by Vickers, a British engineering firm that had been around since the early 1800s, which had been working to restyle, re-engineer and reinvigorate the cars for the new millennium. Both lines enjoyed good sales considering their stratospheric prices, but when Vickers placed both companies up for sale it created an absolute frenzy between Volkswagen and BMW—both of which wanted the coveted English brands as part of their portfolio.
BMW already had an engineering arrangement with both companies that included providing both V-8 and V-12 engines. Eventually Volkswagen won Bentley and BMW won Rolls-Royce. Presented in Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic with an Oyster interior detailed with dark blue piping and appointments, this Bentley Arnage Red Label has covered 76,823 miles from new. The premium wheels are shod with new Toyo Proxes ST2 tires and the car will be offered with a clean CarFax, owner’s manual and books. – Contrary to the printed catalog description, the ownership history of this Bentley Arnage Red Label was conveyed verbally from the previous owner.
