Chassis No.: AR825186

Estimate: €45,000 - €55,000 EUR

  • Alfa Romeo's largest model in its day
  • Elegant Bertone styling
  • Outstandingly original and unmolested
  • Registered in Belgium

Introduced in 1962, Alfa Romeo's 106-Series 2600 range was a direct replacement for the preceding 102-Series 2000 cars. The latter's chassis design and body styles were retained, with minor revisions and improvements, but in place of the old, long-stroke, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine was a new, 2,584cc, twin-cam six clearly descended from the immensely successful Giulietta.

A maximum output of 145bhp was claimed for this unit when installed in the Sprint coupé and Spider, good enough for a top speed of around 200km/h in 5th gear, and Cars Illustrated magazine reckoned this magnificent power unit 'one of the smoothest, quietest running sixes, irrespective of the speed at which it is running, in our experience.' Carrozzerias Touring and Bertone were responsible for the 2600 Spider and Sprint Coupé respectively, both of which looked like their 2000 predecessors. Approximately 2,255 Spiders and 6,999 Sprint Coupés were produced between 1962 and 1966, and today these rare and under-appreciated models are becoming increasingly sought after by discerning collectors.

Un-restored and in very well preserved condition, this 2600 Sprint was delivered new in Genova, Italy in November 1965 and first registered to Signore Alfredo Pastore. The first four services were carried out in Genova, the fourth on 6th June 1973 at 14,880 kilometres. The Alfa then relocated to Perugia, being reregistered there on 27th March 1974, and continued to be licensed in Perugia up to at least October 1979. Believed to have had only two owners in Italy, the car was exported to Belgium in July 2016.

We are advised by the private vendor that everything is original, including all body panels and the interior. The body has been re-sprayed once, though all the inner surfaces retain their original factory paint. The original toolbox, wheels, and tyres are present also.

Works carried out last year include fitting a new clutch and clutch cylinders, new tyres, and new gearbox bearings; overhauling the brake servo; and refurbishing the alternative set of wheels. In total, some 45 hours were spent on detailing, while in August 2018 the oil and filters were changed and new sparkplugs fitted. The only notified fault concerns the left-side door window, which is inoperative. Accompanying documentation consists of the original Italian libretto (stamped); Certificate of Origin; ACI papers; and the service booklet. The car also comes with its operating/maintenance manual; repair manual; and spare parts catalogue.

1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint Coupé

Carrozzeria della Carrozzeria Bertone

Telaio nr. AR825186

  • All'epoca il modello Alfa Romeo più grande
  • Elegante stile Bertone
