Living up to its name of “New Sportscar eXperimental,” the Acura/Honda NSX broke new ground when it debuted in 1991. It became the first production vehicle to feature an all-aluminum semi-monocoque chassis, complete with an extruded aluminum alloy frame and suspension components. Compared to steel, the aluminum body trimmed 441 pounds, while the aluminum suspension arms shaved off another 44 pounds. Paired with a mid-engine layout and carefully tuned rear suspension geometry, these innovations helped make the NSX one of the best-handling cars of its era—a reputation it still enjoys today.
This particular example is a first-year example of the NSX-T, the targa version of the NSX that was introduced in 1995 and continued as the sole model available until its discontinuation in 2005. The removable roof resulted in decreased chassis rigidity, hence the need for an extra 100 pounds of structural reinforcements, such as thicker frame side sill rocker panels, bulkheads, roof pillars and new front/rear bulkhead and floorpan crossmembers. NSX-Ts also used smaller-diameter front sway bars, slightly stiffer front springs, softer rear springs and firmer shock dampers for better ride comfort and reduced tendency to oversteer.
These versions also used a lighter electric-assisted power steering rack, a lighter exhaust system, an OBD-II onboard diagnostic system, improvements in the Traction Control System (TCS), newly developed fuel injectors, an improved Torque Reactive limited-slip differential for manual transmission models and a new Throttle-By-Wire system, which together increased corner exit speeds by 10%. A mere 533 units were sold in the U.S. for the 1995 model year. This unmodified 1995 Acura NSX-T is one of those 533 units. It is powered by a 3.0L V-6 engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The exterior is finished in the classic red that you often see on NSXs, with a black leather interior and matching targa top. A major timing belt and water pump service was just completed, and this car even comes with its original owner’s manual and books.
