Land Rover is turning Dakar success into its most extreme Defender yet. The Defender Dakar is a production-bound concept inspired by the D7X-R race-prepared Defenders that dominated this year’s Dakar Rally Stock class with first-, second-, and fourth-place finishes.
Based on the Defender Octa, the Dakar uses its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8, producing 626 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. A revised suspension, wider tracks, 20-inch wheels, and massive 35-inch tires give it a much more aggressive stance. New Dunes, Gravel, and Flight drive modes are designed for serious off-road use—with Flight specifically intended for catching air.
The concept also gets a carbon-fiber hood, raised air intakes, roof-mounted light pods, and reinforced underbody protection. Inside, there are two racing seats with optional four-point harnesses, while the rear carries helmet storage, a spare tire, and an air compressor.
Could this be the ultimate factory Defender for desert adventures? Would you actually take it airborne?
The Dakar Sand and Yanbu Turquoise colors will be offered when reservations open in early 2027. More details are expected at the 2027 Dakar Rally in January.
