China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has flagged production-conformity issues involving sampled vehicles of the Geely EX2 and BYD Qin L DM-i during its 2025 annual inspection. Importantly, the findings apply to the tested vehicles and do not represent a fleet-wide recall.
For the Geely EX2, MIIT found that the sampled car’s wheelbase differed from the officially registered figure by more than the allowed 1% tolerance. The authority did not disclose the actual measurement or the precise deviation.
The BYD Qin L DM-i faced a different issue. Its tested fuel consumption in Charge-Sustaining mode exceeded the figure declared in the regulatory vehicle catalogue. MIIT did not publish the test result or the size of the discrepancy.
Depending on the severity of such findings, regulators can demand corrective action, suspend or revoke catalogue entries, or restrict conformity-certificate data transmission. However, the notice does not say that production of either model has been halted.
Both cars remain important sellers, although sales have weakened sharply year over year. Does tighter regulatory oversight signal a new era for China’s automakers? And could such inspections become increasingly important as competition intensifies?
