Audi is entering the full-size luxury SUV segment with confidence, and the 2027 Audi Q9 is arriving with dimensions and performance designed to compete directly with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. In several key areas, Audi's new flagship even takes the lead.

Measuring 209 inches in length, the 2027 Audi Q9 is 5.4 inches longer than the BMW X7 and 4 inches longer than the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. It also features the longest wheelbase among the three, placing it close to the size of a Cadillac Escalade, which measures 211.9 inches. Audi says maximizing interior space was a priority, and that strategy is most noticeable in the cargo area.

Behind the third-row seats, the Q9 offers 19 cubic feet of luggage capacity—one cubic foot more than the GLS and six more than the X7. However, the BMW and Mercedes still provide slightly better third-row legroom, suggesting Audi prioritized cargo versatility over rear passenger space.

Performance is equally competitive. The standard Q9 is powered by a 429-horsepower twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6, comfortably outperforming the 375-hp six-cylinder engines found in both the BMW X7 xDrive40i and Mercedes-Benz GLS450. Looking for even more power? The Audi SQ9 raises the bar with a 591-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, surpassing the BMW X7 M60i and Mercedes-Benz GLS580, although the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 still leads with 603 horsepower.

Towing capability is another strong point. The Q9 matches the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class with a 7,700-pound towing rating, slightly exceeding the BMW X7's 7,500-pound capacity.
