    BMW’s M2 Goes Full Batmobile

    The BMW M2 is about to get a very different kind of makeover. Italian coachbuilder Riverti Automobili is teasing a re-bodied M2 inspired by the legendary 1970s BMW 3.0 CSL, blending modern performance with one of BMW’s most recognizable racing designs. The original 3.0 CSL was a homologation special created for touring-car racing and became famous for its extreme aerodynamic package. Its oversized rear wing earned the “Batmobile” nickname, while the car eventually became a cornerstone of BMW’s motorsport history and is widely regarded as the first M car. Riverti’s approach isn’t a traditional restomod. Instead, the company is applying the classic CSL aesthetic to the M2’s modern chassis. Carbon fiber will form part of the widebody design, while the M2’s dimensions make it a closer match for the original E9 than the larger M4. Performance, weight, production numbers and pricing have yet to be revealed. Considering BMW charged $750,000 for its 2023 M4 CSL, this Italian creation probably won’t be cheap either.
