Toyota FJ-43 Land Cruiser, 1982
Chassis No.: FJ43110111 Auction: The Eddie Vannoy Collection 2020 Auction date: June 30, 2020 Lot No.: V49 $60,500 | Sold • Exterior: Olive • Interior: Tan • Comprehensive restoration • 4-wheel drive • 4.2L inline 6-cylinder engine • 4-speed manual transmission • Air conditioning • Aluminum radiator • Olive Green paint • Beige canvas top • Folding rear bench seats • Full size spare tire • Firemax tires The 40-series Toyota Land Cruiser made its debut in 1960 and drove into the hearts and minds of millions around the world until the last one rolled off the line in 1984. This rarely seen FJ-43, 4-wheel drive, all-terrain icon, underwent a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration from the crankshaft surround to the bumper guards. The middle wheelbase FJ-43 sat in between the short-wheelbase FJ-40 and the FJ-45 pickup with more room behind the front seats. A beige canvas soft top with new bows keeps cargo and passengers out of the elements, and the semi-long body wears factory Olive Green paint. Pulling the hold-downs and lifting the hood reveals a rebuilt 4.2L inline 6-cylinder 2F engine that put the F in FJ-43. The famously durable engine is finished to a high level of original detail from the iron block and aluminum overhead-camshaft cylinder head to a full complement of factory-correct zinc chromate plated fasteners and clamps. The mighty 2F is backed by 4-speed manual transmission with a dual-range transfer case and Aisin manual front locking hubs to get power down on or off the road. An aluminum radiator helps keep temperature under control, and power steering handles any terrain with hydraulically assisted ease. Authentic durability continues into the tri-tone cabin with orange door panels and seat upholstery over front and rear brown rubber floor coverings with beige piping. Rear jump seats bump up passenger capacity or fold up for cargo capacity. New switches and decals join a 160 KPH speedometer in the body-color dash. Air conditioning is welcome upgrade on hot days under the canvas top in the spartan eight-passenger interior. The restored FJ-43 Land Cruiser is ready to conquer the earth on gunmetal-finish steel wheels with Firemax tires and a matching full-size rear-mount spare. https://www.mecum.com/lots/410185/1982-toyota-fj-43-land-cruiser/

Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser, 1980
Chassis No.: FJ40318320 Auction: The Eddie Vannoy Collection 2020 Auction date: June 30, 2020 Lot No.: V47 $49,500 | Sold • Exterior: Yellow • Interior: Tan • 4.2L inline 6-cylinder engine • 4-speed manual transmission • Power steering • Power brakes • Yellow and White exterior • Tan interior • 80 MPH speedometer • Folding rear seats • Full size spare tire • TrXus STS tires Globe-conquering 4-wheel drive capability and legendary durability make the 40-series Toyota Land Cruiser one of the most popular all-terrain vehicles of all time, and this professionally restored 1980 FJ-40 is ready for its next excursion. The 40-series Land Cruiser launched in 1960, and Toyota made incremental improvements to the platform until the end of the line in 1984. The extensive restoration brought the off-road icon back to its factory-issue setup from the powertrain out to the hubcaps. The Land Cruiser is powered by a Toyota 2F-series 4.2L inline 6-cylinder engine equipped with a new cylinder head to make 135 HP and 200 lb-ft torque. Power gets out to all four wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission with dual-range transfer case. Heavy-duty leaf springs and shock absorbers keep front and rear solid axles in contact on or off the road. Front disc and rear drum brakes help modulate traction. Gray-finish bumpers with guards and a radiator protector work together for exterior protection. FJ-40 design changed little over the near 25-year production run, and the hardtop body was refinished with a white roof and Mustard Yellow paint. White-finish side mirrors and headlight surround along with new marker lights and badging accent timeless style. New rubber gaskets and weather stripping keep noise and the elements out of the interior. Textured vinyl door panels and matching front seat upholstery add comfort and ambulance-style rear doors open up to folding bench seats with a roll cage for passenger protection. The no-nonsense dashboard features a U.S.-market instrument panel with 80 MPH speedometer over oil pressure, fuel, temperature and ammeter gauges. The Land Cruiser waits for its next driver to take hold of the restored steering wheel and power over everything on rugged steel wheels and TrXus STS tires with a matching spare. https://www.mecum.com/lots/410183/1980-toyota-fj-40-land-cruiser/
