Jensen International has brought back the legendary Interceptor in spectacular fashion. Meet the new Jensen Interceptor GTX — a track-only grand tourer packing a supercharged 6.8-liter V-8 with 960 hp sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. The GTX keeps the classic Interceptor’s long hood and fastback proportions but adds aggressive motorsport-inspired aero, including a huge adjustable rear wing capable of producing more than 771 pounds of downforce. Handcrafted aluminum bodywork sits over an aluminum chassis with adjustable dampers and forged 20-inch wheels. Inside, it’s pure track hardware: an FIA-approved roll cage, carbon-fiber seats, six-point harnesses and a fire-extinguisher system. Could this be one of the wildest modern revivals of a classic GT? The GTX will lead a planned family of Interceptors, with road-legal Jensen Interceptor GTR and Jensen Interceptor GT models expected later. No pricing or launch date has been confirmed yet. Would you take this V-8 monster over a modern supercar? 🔥

This unique group of vehicles was created along the lines of a fine GT touring vehicle rather than a racing-derived sports model, featuring spectacular interior appointments, excellent chassis and body structuring and reliable powertrains. Moreover, this example is thoroughly refreshed inside and out, showing the level of artisanship that has helped make these cars popular among their enthusiasts. The Jensen marque created the Interceptor line from 1966 to 1976 at the Kelvin Way factory near Birmingham, England, with the body designed by the Italian firm Carrozzeria Touring. Standard equipment was extensive—power windows, power steering, air conditioning and reclining front bucket seats among them. The Series III models began in 1971, and the convertible was offered only between 1974 and ‘76, the year the company ceased production. Under the hood is the big Chrysler 440 CI RB-series engine, refined during the 1960s muscle-car era and still offering ample torque and horsepower to satisfy the needs of the most demanding owners, yet easily maintained with over-the-counter components. In the Jensens of this era, the engine was backed by the A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic, another result of development in the era. Designed in cabriolet form with four seats in the open air once the electrically-operated Everflex top is secured under the fitted leather boot, the body layout bespeaks of the quality that went into these cars. Intimately fitted steel components mounted to a well-designed chassis are covered in deep rich red paint. Inside, tan leather covers much of the interior, with woolen carpet, an insulated-and-lined top, Jaeger round-face gauges and aircraft-style toggle controls adding to the sophistication. To this, a Moto-Lita 3-spoke woodgrain steering wheel and more modern stereo upgrades have been added. The beautiful 5-spoke GKN alloy wheels and fresh Goodyear tires complete it. The Interceptor III logo in the grille tells the story to those who know, and the plush amenities and ample power will prove its value. https://www.mecum.com/lots/300036/1975-jensen-interceptor-iii-convertible/
