    Could a 911 Be Worth $400,000?

Porsche may be preparing to push the 911 into a new price bracket. An executive’s remarks point to future special editions costing more than twice as much as the entry-level car, potentially taking a flagship past US$400,000. No model or price has been confirmed, and the suggestion does not mean every Carrera will reach that level. The bigger question is what buyers would get for the premium. Would it bring extra performance, a distinctive body, or rarity enough to make access itself part of the attraction? Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program already lets customers personalize cars, including restoring and reworking an existing Carrera GT. That commitment to bespoke and older models can appeal to collectors—but how much of a high price would reflect engineering, and how much exclusivity? What would make a 911 worth more than US$400,000?

The 911 Gets a Modern Twist

After nearly 40 years of transforming modern Porsches into wider, faster machines, TechArt has taken an unexpected step back in time. Its new GTclassic is based on the air-cooled 964-generation Porsche 911, combining the character of the original with carefully chosen modern upgrades. At its heart is a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six producing up to 380 PS / 375 hp / 279 kW, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual, according to Motor1. Upgraded suspension, motorsport engine mounts and stronger brakes make the GTclassic more than a visual restomod. The design blends old and new, with modern LED lights, a vented ducktail and 18-inch forged wheels inspired by classic Fuchs rims. Inside, Hanhart stopwatches and bespoke trim meet Apple CarPlay and navigation. Naturally, Singer comes to mind. But can TechArt’s decades of Porsche experience give the GTclassic its own identity? And if you had to choose, would you take the Singer approach or this TechArt interpretation?

This Porsche 911 Is Worth $650K

The 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo S is one of the rarest and most desirable versions of the final air-cooled 911 Turbo—and this Guards Red example is now heading to auction. It isn’t Michael Jordan’s car, but it looks remarkably similar to the Turbo S seen in The Last Dance. Only 176 U.S.-spec examples were originally sold, making the 993 Turbo S an increasingly valuable collector car. This one has just 24,000 miles, a black leather interior and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. It was also comprehensively serviced in 2023, including replacement of aging belts and seals. The Turbo S added larger turbochargers, upgraded cooling and engine management, and more boost than the standard Turbo. Its 3.6-liter engine produced 424 hp, sent through a six-speed manual transmission to all four wheels. The current bid has already reached $650,000, despite the car being nearly three decades old. That’s enough for two new 911 Turbo S models—and makes this air-cooled icon a serious investment as well as a spectacular grand tourer. Could this 993 Turbo S set a new auction record? How high could the bidding go? Would you spend $650,000 on an air-cooled Porsche? 👇 Auction ends September 18
