Mercedes Drops a Mysterious V12 Hint

Mercedes-AMG may have learned an expensive lesson: huge power figures don’t automatically make enthusiasts forget the V8. CEO Ola Källenius admitted the brand underestimated how attached buyers were to eight-cylinder engines. Even 671 hp from the four-cylinder hybrid C63 couldn’t win everyone over. For some AMG fans, the soundtrack and character matter just as much as acceleration. Mercedes plans to answer with a V8-powered CLE63 in 2027, but the current C63 won’t receive the same engine. That leaves fans wanting a V8 C-Class looking to older models instead. And what about twelve cylinders? Källenius teased, “Watch this space,” without confirming any new V12 model. Mercedes already uses V12 power in certain S-Class versions, but a G65 comeback remains speculation. Could AMG’s future involve more choice rather than one route to performance? And if you could pick any engine, would you take a V8 or a V12?

Mercedes Builds an Electric SUV Rocket

Mercedes-AMG is taking electric SUV performance into supercar territory. The 2028 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will top out with the GT63, packing three electric motors and a claimed 1,153 hp. Mercedes estimates 0–60 mph in just 2.4 seconds, while the larger 128-kWh battery helps offset the SUV’s bulk. Below it, the GT55 delivers 805 hp, while the entry-level GT53 uses two conventional electric motors to produce 536 hp and weighs nearly 400 pounds less. Could the less powerful version actually be the smarter buy? AMG has also reworked the suspension with active systems designed to control body roll, braking dive and acceleration squat. Inside, rear passengers get significantly more room than in the four-door sedan, while simulated gearshifts and engine sounds aim to preserve AMG’s traditional drama. Sales are expected to begin next summer, but pricing and official range figures remain unknown. Is 1,153 horsepower enough to make this electric SUV a game changer?
