All-terrain 4-wheel drive capability and a fully removable top made the shortened SUV an instant success. The Blazer arrived slightly late to the Bronco, Jeep and International Scout party, but its combination of off-road performance and passenger car appointments gave it an advantage. The second-generation launched in 1974, and the full-size Sport Utility evolved into a more refined SUV by the time this 1988 K5 Blazer rolled off the line with the top-of-the-line Silverado package. More than 30 years later, the unrestored original shows just 2,900 miles on the odometer and comes with its original window sticker. The Blazer wears Midnight Black and Apple Red two-tone paint, as well as a removable half-cab top with optional sliding side quarter windows. The top-of-the-line package included quad halogen headlamps, deluxe body-side moldings, an electric tailgate and deluxe bumpers. Combination mudguard running boards add protection and classic style. The 5.7L small-block Chevrolet V-8 is backed by a 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission and 3.08:1 ratio rear axle. Power steering and power front disc/rear drum brakes deliver near-effortless on and off-road control. Automatic locking hubs engage 4-high and 4-low 4-wheel wheel-lock traction without having to leave the comfort of high-back reclining front bucket seats in the burgundy custom cloth cabin. Silverado interior appointments included a deluxe Comfortilt steering wheel, power windows and locks, center console with storage and beverage pockets, and brushed pewter-toned trim. Air conditioning, power windows and locks, electronic speed control, and an AM/FM cassette stereo deliver comfort, convenience and entertainment. Genuine Chevrolet front and rear floor mats protect the color-matched carpet. The all-terrain icon’s extensive list of factory options totaled more than one third of the base price and this K5 Blazer is arguably one of the best preserved examples known to exist. https://www.mecum.com/lots/409573/1988-chevrolet-k5-blazer/
