With only a few imported and sold new in the U.S., this 1956 Volvo PV444 custom coupe underwent a no-expense-spared restoration. This Arizona car was purchased by the current Oregon owner and starting in 2012 underwent a three-year nut-and-bolt comprehensive build intended to increase performance and handling while retaining the original look of the PV444. This car was restored to new as when it rolled off the factory floor, with many well-executed upgrades. The engine was upgraded to a Toyota double overhead cam 16-valve 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and sent out for a complete performance rebuild, as was the original Toyota 5-speed manual transmission.

The suspension was upgraded and disc brakes were added. Air conditioning was added, and vents discreetly installed. A period-correct radio was sourced and then converted to a stereo, and the speakers were hidden behind the correct interior materials. Adjustable headrests were custom-fabricated to match the original-style interior. For safety, three-point shoulder belts were installed for the front seats and lap belts installed for the rears.
