Produced between 1961 and 1967, the TR4 combined a new, modern and aggressive body design by famed Italian stylist, Giovanni Michelotti with the basic chassis of the previous TR3A. The TR4 also improved passenger comfort with wind-up windows, face-level ventilation and an optional hardtop. The 2138cc engine of the late-production TR3A continued while the 1991cc engine was also made available to buyers who wanted to participate in two litre racing. When equipped with the optional overdrive, the TR4 was good for a top speed of almost 110mph. Today, the four-cylinder TR's are among the easiest of post-war classic sports cars to own and maintain being supported by a multitude of component suppliers and other specialists.
This very good, early 1964 Triumph TR4 fitted with the desirable Surrey Top and manual gearbox with overdrive was the subject to a restoration some time ago while retaining the original white dashboard and passenger grab handle. Recent work carried out included a narrow fan belt conversion which removes the fan from the engine. A new electric Kenlow fan has been fitted and a new alternator to replace the dynamo. The car was sent to marque specialists TR Enterprises where the suspension was overhauled, with a total of £10,000 spent on the car.
Finished in Powder Blue with dark blue interior this Triumph TR4 is supplied with a V5 registration document and a file containing invoices relating to the recent work carried out. This rare, UK supplied Surrey Top, is a desirable British sports car that should generate interest in the wider classic car enthusiasts’ community.
