Offered from long term ownership with an exacting restoration completed to an outstanding level. Long famed for their rugged reliability and idiosyncratic good looks, the 'side screen' TRs have attracted a fanatical following over the years. The final evolution of the Triumph TR2/TR3 sportscar line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. It was never officially badged as such and was, in fact, a minor revision of the TR3, with updates including a new wide grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot and a full toolkit.

Great fun to drive, its tough box-section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle and disc/drum brakes, (the first British production car to have front disc brakes as standard). Fitted with a 1,991cc four-cylinder OHV unit developing around 104bhp and 117lb/ft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 110mph. A great sales success on both sides of the Atlantic, the model provided a rather more visceral alternative to its MG and Jaguar competition.

This particular TR3A has been in its current long-term ownership for some 25 years, during which time it has undergone a total chassis-up restoration including many sensible upgrades providing a more modern and enjoyable driving experience. The complete nut and bolt overhaul included a full body refurbishment, superbly finished in Triumph Royal Blue with an equally impressive interior refinished in light grey hide piped in blue.

The engine, gearbox and overdrive were rebuilt with engine internals lightened and balanced, a 'fast-road' cam, harmonic crankshaft pulley upgrade, new flywheel and clutch assembly, rear oil-seal conversion, Dynalite Alternator conversion, a stainless steel manifold and SS sports exhaust. Additionally, the steering was sharpened with a rack and pinion conversion to enhance the overall feel and driving experience. In fact, there is nothing that has not been refinished, replaced or renewed, all of which has been completed by its retired engineer custodian to a very impressive level, so much so that we encourage and welcome your early inspection to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer.
