With production beginning in 1951, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the second-longest running SUV production model in the world. Originally inspired by the design of the Jeep, the Toyota Land Cruiser is renowned for its reliability and longevity as well as its ability to traverse harsh terrains. After all, the Land Cruiser is tested in none other than the Australian outback for off-road quality assurance. Seeing as it is the best-selling, body-on-frame, 4-wheel drive vehicle in Australia, it’s safe to say the Land Cruiser lives up to its reputation. This chassis has been rotisserie-restored to its original quality, and less than 500 miles have been put on the vehicle since.
Good for 85 HP and 141 lb-ft of torque, this 1980 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ-40 is powered by a 3.0L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 4-speed manual floor-shift transmission and 2-speed transfer case that sends power to all four wheels. The FJ is equipped with manually locking Aisin front hubs, and updated suspension components include Bilstein shocks at all four corners and gray-painted, 15-inch steel wheels wrapped in 235-75 R15 BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires. A black rubber mat covers the load floor in the bed, and the cabin features like-new white seats and gray door panels, added floor mats, and silver bezels on the steel dash.
This BJ-40 has been meticulously cared for since purchased by its current owner. The engine has been a reliable workhorse and has lived up to the Toyota reliability standards, while the 4×4 ensures the BJ-40 can drive through tuff terrain with ease. The BJ-40’s commanding presence on the road and sheer capability off-road makes it like no other, and this Land Cruiser is also a little bit more special than most. Since these Land Cruisers weren't marketed in the U.S., it’s not likely you’ll find a similar Land Cruiser in the U.S. anytime soon.
It's not every day you get the chance to own an icon, and if you're looking for a Land Cruiser that is ready to be enjoyed on or off-road, this just might be the one.
