For the 2006 model year, Toyota introduced the FJ Cruiser, a vehicle shown at the 2003 North American International Auto Show as a concept that harkened back to the original Toyota FJ40. Bringing a modern flair to the vintage style of the FJ40, the FJ Cruiser was well received by both the press and public alike. Even off-road enthusiasts praised the FJ Cruiser for its equipment and thoughtful off-road design and engineering, all of which led to a very capable off roader. Nicely, Toyota continued to evolve the platform though the years, ultimately creating an even more able vehicle and a number of special editions.
An interesting special edition was the Ultimate Edition, a package that brought about Bilstein shocks, an upgraded off-road traction control system known as TRAC, new instruments including an inclinometer and compass, and automatic-equipped vehicles received a locking rear differential. It’s said that of the 2,500 Ultimate Edition FJ Cruisers built, only 250 were equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, like this one on offer. In 2014, after roughly 250,000 FJ Cruisers were sold in the United States, Toyota pulled the plug on the program.
While a number of special-edition FJ Cruisers were built, it’s largely agreed that the Ultimate Edition is one of the most desirable, thanks to the equipment level and the overall styling. This Ultimate Edition is finished in blue and has a black and gray interior. Powered by the 4.0L/260 HP V-6 engine and 6-speed manual transmission, the FJ is equipped with a TRD shifter, air conditioning, AM/FM/CD stereo system, roof rack, a rear-mounted spare tire, a Torsen differential and TRD wheels with BF Goodrich T/A All-Terrain tires. Having covered just 380 miles from new, this FJ Cruiser SR Ultimate Edition presents in showroom condition.
