Over the last two decades, the Smart microcar had become a familiar sight in cities around the world. Unusually, it was not the creation of an established motor manufacturer but a watchmaker: SMH, makers of Swatch watches. Smart CEO Nicolas Hayek realised that collaboration with a motor industry partner was the way forward and concluded a deal with Daimler-Benz in 1994. The first Fortwo production models were launched in October 1998. An egg-shaped two-seater, the Fortwo Coupé was powered by a rear-mounted petrol engine that drove the rear wheels. Updated with more modern engines and drive trains, the basic concept endures to this day.
Offered here is Smart's electric E-Drive Prime Premium model, which is powered by a 60kW, 160Nm motor giving it a top speed of 80mph. The car has a claimed range of 100 miles, enough for most urban driving, and it can be charged from 20% to 100% in 2½ hours using a wall-box or six hours from a domestic power socket. There is, of course, no road tax to pay. 'WK67 YKB' was first registered on 30th January 2018 and used for a handful of short trips, covering only some 50 miles from new. Kept garaged and SORN'd, it is presented in excellent, almost new condition. The car comes with the Mercedes bill of sale, owner's pack, chargers, and two sets of keys.
