Launched in April 1955, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud boasted the final iteration of the W.O. Bentley-designed inline six-cylinder engine. With 4.9 litres, increased compression, larger carburettors and intake valves, it was Britain’s flagship luxury motor car. As the last production Rolls-Royce to feature a separate chassis in the traditional manner, its elegant appearance marked the end of an era.

Chassis LSHF 241 was supplied new via Rolls-Royce’s New York dealer JS Inskip Inc. to their client Robert Brunner Esq., who resided at the elegant Waldorf=Astoria hotel and summered at his home in Brussels, Belgium. Mr. Brunner specified Shell Grey coachwork with blue hides, blue piping, blue carpets and grey headliner cloth. Other details requested included coat hangers, fog lamps, power steering, shields over the door locks, electric windows, aerial and four light tan suitcases. The new Rolls-Royce was shipped to the USA on 22 October, 1958 and appears to have spent most of its subsequent life in Belgium, where it was owned for four decades by Dr.

Jean-Luc Forget, during which time air conditioning and a very ’60s-appropriate Blaupunkt ‘quadra stereo’ were fitted. Accompanied by Belgian registration, its original owners handbook and maintenance log, this is a delightfully patinated, superbly specified example of one of the last ‘old school’ Rolls-Royces.
