The 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder were revealed in June 2019. Both are differentiated from less powerful models by more aggressive bodywork, including a lower stance, new front bumper, a large new diffuser and exhaust pipes that are spaced farther apart. The GT4 also features larger side intakes and an adjustable wing, the latter of which helps it generate up to 150 kg of downforce, 50 percent more than its predecessor. Both have a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six derived from the 992's 3.0-litre 9A2EVO engine, which is rated at 414 hp. The engine has cylinder deactivation, a first for Porsche. Porsche claims a top speed of 189 mph for the GT4.
The front suspension and brakes are borrowed from the 911 GT3 and the adaptive dampers, ABS and stability-control programming are borrowed from the 911 GT3 RS. With the switch to a new turbocharged flat-four engine the marketing name for the models was changed to Porsche 718, in reference to the 718, which won the Targa Florio race in 1959 and 1960. The name is meant to evoke Porsche's past racing successes with light cars like the 718 that outmanoeuvred competitors with larger and more powerful engines.
This as new 2021 Model year Porsche 718 Cayman 4.0 litre GT4, six-speed manual, is finished in the rare colour scheme of Porsche Racing Yellow with contrasting full black leather and Alcantara trim with yellow stitching and emobssed logo to seats and steering wheel and also to the yellow seat belts. The facia panel and centre consul are also finished in racing yellow along with racing yellow GT fabric door lock pull. The car has been owned from new by one private gentleman in his private collection and has done a total mileage of just 367 miles since being registered.
On the build sheet (copies in the history file) there are 52 extra specification codes (far too many to list here) but some of them are , Adaptive Sports Racing 18Way electric seats, Auto dimming mirrors with integrated mirrors, Bose sound system, electric folding door mirrors and chrono package, cruise control, painted interior package, rear park assist with reversing camera, white instrument dials, speed limit indicator, two zone automatic climate control, heated seats, sat navigation, sports tail pipes etc, etc! These models are often commented upon as being a much more superior driving experience than the marque’s other model, the 911!
