For much of its existence, Porsche has blessed the motoring world with a succession of homologation specials engineered and built to meet specific international competition requirements while remaining road-legal. Developed beginning in 1999 and launched at Geneva in 2003, the Carrera GT was the planned successor to the 911 GT1. While FIA rule changes frustrated Porsche’s racing plans for the new car, the company forged ahead, and when production ended in May 2006, some 1,270 Carrera GTs had been built at Porsche’s new facility in Leipzig, Germany. Roughly half were allocated to North America.

Technical specifications remain advanced, beginning with the Carrera GT’s competition-style carbon fiber monocoque and subframe, which was produced by Italy’s ATR Composites Group. Lightweight materials abound, including 19- and 20-inch forged magnesium wheels. An automated rear wing deploys above 70 MPH, providing heightened downforce and stability at speed. Inside, the Carrera GT delivers purposeful, driver-focused luxury. Blinding acceleration and a 205 MPH top speed make every outing a thrilling experience.

Offered with the odometer reading 3,471 miles at the time of writing, this 2005 Porsche Carrera GT sports a visually stunning exterior refinished in bespoke PPG Rosso Fuoco (Fire Red), which was performed by the noted European vehicle experts at Karosserie in Wayne, Pennsylvania. There, over a three-month period, the car was carefully stripped to its bare carbon fiber tub before receiving the concours-quality paint job to beyond factory standards, implementing modern technologies and deep industry knowledge.

One of the 644 units originally sold in the United States, this 2005 Porsche Carrera GT is powered by a race-derived 5.7L V-10 engine rated at 603 HP and 435 lb-ft of torque with four valves per cylinder, sodium-cooled exhaust valves, an integrated dry-sump oiling system with 10 oil pumps, cross-flow cylinder cooling, and an aluminum twin-flow resonance intake system. The 6-speed manual transmission incorporates a two-disc ceramic dry clutch. The factory-original hydraulic rear spoiler actuators were updated with a specially engineered electrical system.

Underpinnings include double wishbones front and rear, directional control is via power steering, and braking is provided by 4-wheel ventilated carbon ceramic disc brakes, including 6-piston fixed alloy calipers and 4-channel ABS. Removable roof panels deliver an unforgettable open-air experience as desired. Demonstrating Porsche’s drive to produce winning racing cars and meet FIA homologation requirements while doing it, the Carrera GT continues to stun all who experience it today. Its low production numbers, blistering performance, uncompromising specifications and amazing looks have thoroughly cemented the Carrera GT’s place in the collector car world.
