Porsche’s send-off of its seventh-generation 992.1 came in the beautifully racy form of the 2019 911 Speedster. Based on the sublime GT3, the Speedster delighted the motoring press with improved engine response, a ride that rivals the superbly refined base 911 and the perfect exhaust note for top-down driving.
The Speedster’s GT3-derived all-aluminum DOHC 24-valve flat-6 boxer engine was endowed with new individual throttle bodies and higher fuel pressure to produce 502 HP at 8,400 RPM, which is tapped through a 6-speed manual transmission—no choice of PDK here—to achieve 60 MPH in a mere 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 195 MPH, while also delivering a pleasingly effortless 70 MPH cruising experience. With a limited production of 1,948 units, the Speedster is quickly visually identified by its lower windshield frame and simple manually removable top—timeless Speedster features. In other words, Porsche got everything right, once again.
A one-owner car since new, this 2019 911 Speedster was sold new at Porsche West Palm Beach in Florida. It has been sparingly driven to the tune of just 258 miles, a figure reflected in the car’s immaculate details. Its Guards Red paint and black convertible top are complemented with a black leather interior with red contrast stitching, lightweight carbon fiber composite bucket seats and center console, all rendered to Porsche’s renowned standards of craftsmanship.
