It’s hard to imagine a more assiduously maintained, well documented 1980s-vintage automobile than this exceptional 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera. The last iteration of the original 911 before the significant overhaul to the second-generation 964 series, this Carrera shows the multitude of improvements, both major and minor, that marked the evolution of this remarkable evergreen sports GT. Its 3.2L flat-6 engine is wildly different from the original, generating 215 HP and giving the Carrera a 0-60 MPH time of 6.1 seconds—remarkable for its era, yet possessed of calm tractability in everyday driving.
The engine’s performance was enhanced by Getrag’s precision G50 5-speed manual transmission and suspension and brakes designed to handle hardcore track action. Beautifully turned out in classic silver over a matching gray interior, this 1989 911 Carrera coupe combines the svelte “narrow-body” coachwork with the Turbo-derived “whale tail” rear spoiler, a new factory front chin spoiler, a sunroof, fog lights and silver-painted alloy wheels. Its Continental Extreme Contact radial tires replaced earlier Michelin Pilot Sport tires at 59,000 miles. The gray interior is signature period 911 fare: comfortable bucket seats, full instrumentation and matching custom Coco mats.
