  • Offered from The Iseli Collection
  • A well-preserved example of Porsche’s top-of-the-line sports car for 1970
  • Sold new in Bologna, Italy
  • Powered by a replacement 2.2-litre flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle
  • Accompanied by a copy of its factory Kardex, owner’s manual with folio, and tool roll

The S variant of the 911 launched in 1966, two years after the rear-engined sports car first made its debut. Easily distinguishable by its stylish Fuchs alloy wheels, the 911 S featured a heavily revised engine producing 160 horsepower, 30 horsepower more than the base model. Improved handling was achieved in 1969, courtesy of the lengthened wheelbase.

In 1970, the 911’s 2.0-litre, air-cooled, flat-six engine was enlarged to 2.2 litres, producing 180 horsepower when fitted with Bosch mechanical fuel injection as in the 911 S model. By this time, Porsche offered three models of 911: the base 911 T, the luxury 911 E, and the top-of-the-line performance 911 S, all of which were available either as a hard-top coupé or open-top Targa. With partial aluminium bodywork and improved light-alloy brakes, the 911 S provided an exemplary platform for spirited high-speed driving.

The 911 S Coupé offered here was sold new in Bologna, Italy in June of 1970 and appears to have remained in Italy for much of its life. Most recently retained by The Iseli Collection in Switzerland, it is finished in green over a black interior and rides on Fuchs wheels, while retaining many period features such as its aluminium bonnet. At an unknown point in its history, the car’s original engine was swapped for a similar unit, thought to be from a 1971 911 S.

The car is offered for sale with copies of previous Italian documents, including registrations, title, and Historic Italian Automotoclub certificate, further to a copy of its factory Kardex data. Also included is the owner’s manual with plastic folio and a tool roll.

Well-preserved in an eye-catching colour, this 911 S Coupé is eminently desirable as Porsche’s top-of-the-line sports car for 1970.
