This 1965 Porsche 911 coupe is a sensational example of the car that redefined the company and quickly established itself as one of the ultimate sports cars of all time. Chassis number 302610, it was produced on October 14, 1965 and purchased new by Mr. Robert Sumpter of Los Angeles, California. Early models such as this are especially desirable as the purest realization of Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche’s original design with the original shorter wheelbase (increased by 2 inches beginning in 1968 production models) and particularly in such interior details as its simple instrument layout and upscale wood dash inserts.

The 911’s timeless fastback shape is well dressed in brilliant Polo Red paint, with chromed steel wheels adding a restrained touch of flash. Much of the Black leatherette interior is original to this car, and includes a wood-rimmed 4-spoke steering wheel and a refurbished Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio. A Webasto heater supplies the ample heat that made it a favorite with drivers in cold climates and those facing winter rally conditions. The 911’s matching-numbers engine, number 902771, is mated to a Type 902/0 4-speed manual transmission.

This 2.0L flat-6 engine impressed motoring journalists at its introduction with its willingness to rev, delivering 130 HP at 6,100 RPM and 129 lb-ft of torque at 4,200. This car received a major service in 2016 that included new fluids, filters and spark plugs and rebuilding its carburetors. The braking system and alignment were overhauled as well, and the car was also fitted with new shock absorbers, a new battery and new Firestone F560 radial tires specially designed for European classics such as this.

Offered complete with date coded spare and jack, owner’s manual with sleeve, a copy of the factory Kardex and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this outstanding 1965 Porsche 911 coupe is prepared for the spirited experience that made the early 911 the classic it has become.
