Arguably the greatest road-going Porsche 911 to its time, this 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS built on the vast capabilities of the preceding GT3 with an array of special features that put it at the cutting edge of the track car category. Sporting special-order Ultraviolet paint, it is powered by a normally aspirated version of Porsche’s highly developed 4.0L, DOHC 24-valve horizontally opposed flat-6 engine, in this case generating 500 HP at its 8,800 RPM redline while emitting a hair-raising howl through its Akrapovic exhaust system; rear fender air intakes produce a ram effect that contributes 25 HP to the mix.
Porsche’s excellent PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission perfectly serves the engine’s output with lightning-quick shifts. Superior roadholding optimizes the performance through Porsche Active Suspension Management and Torque Vectoring Plus, electromechanical rear wheel steering and adjustable anti-roll bars. The GT3 RS has the Turbo’s wider body and track, maximizing cornering power with extra-wide Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track tires on black center-locking 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels over ventilated disc brakes with red-painted calipers.
The roof is magnesium to lower the center of gravity, and lightweight carbon fiber is used for the ventilated front fenders, front decklid and engine cover. A pronounced front splitter and high-mounted adjustable rear wing maximize high speed downforce. In contrast to many a track-centric special, this GT3 RS boasts a surprisingly refined black leather interior with Alcantara trim, well-bolstered, comfortable carbon fiber bucket seats with Guards Red harnesses and carbon fiber accents, the Sound Package and automatic climate control.
