The GT2 has always been at the top of the performance food chain among 911 Turbos. Specifically built to satisfy the homologation rules pertaining to the FIA GT2 class, which disallows all-wheel-drive, the production version of the GT2 reflects its competition intention. This 2002 Porsche 911 GT2 is one of just 317 examples produced for the U.S. market and presents in black with matching black leather seats. It has only 34,725 original miles and has been optioned with aluminum and carbon-fiber interior appointments.
The GT2 is a speed machine that has been put on a 220-pound weight-reduction diet primarily achieved through the substitution of its all-wheel-drive system for that of rear-wheel-drive only, as well as the substitution of cast-iron brake rotors for ceramic-composite brake rotors. Porsche has also added additional horsepower, elevating it from the stock Turbo rating of 415 to 462 HP in the GT2. Numerically, this translates to a 6.5 percent weight reduction with an 11.3 percent gain in horsepower. But beyond the metrics, it is the overall feel and persona of the GT2 that make it such an exhilarating experience to drive.
Porsche has purposely deleted PASM—Porsche Active Stability Management—from the option list, requiring total driver involvement and quick reflexes in the absence of electronic intervention. The suspension has been lowered by just less than 1 inch, and the springs, shocks and sway bars have been recalibrated for maximum grip. A limited-slip differential is standard equipment, as is the 6-speed manual gearbox with a race-bred short-throw linkage. The Tiptronic automatic transmission is simply not available on the GT2, nor is a sunroof, which impedes airflow to the specially designed rear wing exclusive to the GT2.
