Although Ferdinand Porsche had established his independent automotive design consultancy in the early 1930s, his name would not appear on a car until 1949. When it did, it graced one of the all-time great sports cars: the Porsche 356. The work of Ferry Porsche, the Type 356 was based on the Volkswagen designed by his father, Ferdinand, and like the immortal 'Beetle' employed a platform-type chassis with rear-mounted air-cooled engine and all-independent torsion bar suspension.
Having commenced manufacture with a short run of aluminum-bodied cars built at the Gmünd, Austria-based old sawmill, Porsche began volume production of the steel-bodied 356 Coupe at its old base in Stuttgart, at first in premises shared with coachbuilders Reutter and then from 1955 in its original factory at Zuffenhausen. In 1951 a works car finished first in the 1,100cc class at the Le Mans 24 Hours, thus beginning the marque's long and illustrious association with Le Sarthe.
Constant development saw the 356's engine progressively enlarged, with 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre units first becoming available in 1951. In 1952 the original split windscreen was replaced by a one-piece bent screen and a Porsche synchromesh gearbox adopted. 1955 marked the arrival of the revised 356A, the newcomer being readily distinguished by its curved windscreen and 15" - down from 16" - wheels.
This Porsche 356 Pre-A left the factory on June 6, 1954. It was purchased new in Austria by an American soldier based in Germany. He brought the Porsche with him when he returned to Missouri in summer 1954. It was in the 1990's that the car returned to Europe, it was then black, showing some signs of age. Therefore, a first restoration was carried out at the beginning of the 2000s, the car was then painted white, while the original red interior was kept. Bought by its current owner in 2006, it underwent a new restoration in 2013, more extensive than the previous one.
The 356 was painted in Solher Metallic, and the interior, upholstered in full-grain red leather, was restored by Sellerie du Ventoux. The engine and gearbox were also restored. Crankcases #1-0729851 were replaced by crankcases #63816 but are offered with the car.
After its restoration, the 356 participated in various events, including international meetings dedicated to the Pre-A Porsche 356, successively in Italy in 2014, in England in 2015, in France in 2016... It also made a few laps on the Montlhéry ring in 2017, during the Normandy Roads rally.
Eligible for many historic events and famous for being at the birth of now renowned company, the 356 Pre-A is a model of choice for fans of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer.

- Rare Auto-Radio Telefunken Bien que Ferdinand Porsche ait fondé son bureau d'étude automobile au début des années 1930, son nom n'apparut pas sur une voiture avant 1949. Quand ce fut le cas, il ornait l'une des plus grandes sportives de tous les temps, la Porsche 356. La production débuta avec une petite série de voitures à carrosserie en aluminium construite à Gmünd et se poursuivit en plus grande quantité avec un coupé 356 à carrosserie acier fabriquée dans son ancien siège de Stuttgart, d'abord dans des locaux partagés avec le carrossier Reutter, puis, à partir de 1955, dans son usine originale de Zuffenhausen.
Conçue par Ferry Porsche, la 356 était basée sur la Volkswagen imaginée par son père. Comme l'immortelle 'Coccinelle', la 356 utilisait un châssis plate-forme avec un moteur refroidi par air à l'arrière et une suspension indépendante à barres de torsion. En 1951, une voiture d'usine termina première de la classe 1100 cm3 aux 24 Heures du Mans, initiant une longue et glorieuse liaison avec la Sarthe. Des améliorations successives permirent d'augmenter la capacité du moteur de la 356, le pare-brise d'origine en deux parties fut remplacé par un élément d'une seule pièce et une boîte synchronisée fut adoptée.
La 356 A arriva 1955, se distinguant par son pare-brise bombé et ses roues descendues de 16 à 15 pouces.
Cette Porsche 356 Pré-A est sortie d'usine le 6 juin 1954. Elle fut acquise neuve en Autriche par un militaire américain basé en Allemagne. Ce dernier emmena la Porsche avec lui lors de son retour dans le Missouri à l'été 1954. C'est dans les années 1990 qu'elle revient en Europe, elle est alors noire, affichant quelques affres du temps. C'est pourquoi une première restauration est effectuée au début des années 2000, la voiture se parant alors d'une peinture blanche, mais conservant son intérieur rouge d'origine. Acquise par son propriétaire actuel en 2006, elle connut en 2013, une nouvelle restauration, plus poussée que la précédente.
La 356 en ressort sous la teinte Solher Metallic, l'habitacle tendu de cuir rouge pleine fleur fut réalisé par la Sellerie du Ventoux. L'ensemble des organes mécaniques fut également restauré. Les carters #1-0729851 furent remplacés par les carters #63816 mais seront vendus avec la voiture.
Après sa restauration, la 356 participera à différents événements, notamment les meetings internationaux dédiés à la Porsche 356 Pré-A, successivement en Italie en 2014, en Angleterre en 2015, en France en 2016... Elle a également posé ses roues sur l'anneau de Montlhéry en 2017, à l'occasion du Normandy Roads.
Eligible dans de nombreux événements historiques et célèbre pour être à la naissance d'une marque devenue aujourd'hui mythique, la 356 Pré-A est un modèle de choix pour les amateurs de la firme de Stuttgart.
