Reading just over 43,732 miles on the odometer, this 2004 Pontiac GTO is presented in silver with the factory rear spoiler and chrome aftermarket wheels wrapped with low-profile black wall tires. Powered by the 5.7L V-8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission, the GTO features a red interior fitted with four bucket seats, leather upholstery, factory “GTO” embroidery atop the front seatbacks, a center console, a factory Blaupunkt AM/FM/CD changer stereo system, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors and cruise control. Red gauges match the interior color. Power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes make the muscular Pontiac easier to drive and enjoy.
For 2004, Pontiac worked with Holden in Australia to convert their Monaro coupes into GTOs. Creating a new front end with the signature Pontiac split grille and switching the emblems over gave it the look, while installing a dashboard with lefthand drive was a bit more involved. Sitting in the GTO reveals a couple of unique points, one being the handbrake lever lies on the right side of the center console; similarly, the power/volume knob is on the righthand side of the stereo head unit, both reminders that this was originally intended to be a righthand drive car.
The speedometer is calibrated to 200 – using the “Mode” button on the right will reset it for miles per hour or kilometers per hour. Introduced for the 2004 model year, 15,740 were built, each fitted with a 5.7L/350 HP LS1 V-8 engine. For 2005, the 6.0L/400 HP LS2 would be installed and 11,069 would find homes; in 2006, the 6.0L would remain in place and sales would pick up to 13,948. Of the 2004s, 2,450 were finished in the silver like this one.
