Conceived and realized by the brilliant Horacio Pagani, this 2016 Pagani Huayra from the Jackie and Gary Runyon Collection is one of just 100 built by Pagani Automobili Modena, an elite team of engineers, artisans and fabricators that breathe life into their namesake’s singular vision of automobile as artistic expression. Named after a wind god of the South American Quechua people, the Huayra’s shape is artfully rendered in Pagani’s proprietary woven “Carbotanium” composite, a blend of carbon fiber and titanium strands that exceeds carbon fiber’s strength and will not shatter.
Its aggressive sculpturing has as much in common with the latest generation of fighter aircraft as it does with any hypercar competitor. Pagani’s long and fruitful relationship with Mercedes-Benz is reflected in the Huayra’s twin-turbocharged 6.0L/620 HP V-12 engine, each one hand made by a single AMG technician and powering its host to 60 MPH in 2.8 seconds and a terminal speed of almost 240 MPH.
Vehicle dynamics are a veritable symphony of interplay between all-independent wishbone front and rear suspension, advanced coilover shocks and carbon ceramic disc brakes working in concert with active computer-actuated aero flaps, rising and falling independently in response to the vehicle’s speed, trajectory and balance at any given moment; even the U.S./Euro-spec side mirrors are working aerodynamic components.
Wrapped in exquisitely-formed and mirror-finished black Carbotanium with gold accents and wheels, the Huayra features gullwing-style doors that open to display an astonishingly beautiful cockpit rendered in more black composites, hand-formed red and black leathers, Alcantara and jewel-like machined and polished switchgear and controls.
