MG began making its T-series sports cars in 1936 shortly after the company withdrew from racing on orders from its new proprietor, Morris Motors. The first-generation TA introduced hydraulic brakes, more pliant suspension tuning and a reliable and zesty pushrod 4-cylinder and 4-speed gearbox borrowed from the Morris 10. After the war, production resumed and so did the evolution of the T series, each successive model of which was exported in large numbers to an American market hungering for European-style sports cars. The TF brought with it more integrated styling with faired-in headlights on sweeping bodywork, optional wire wheels and an inline-4 rated at 63 HP.
Like its predecessors, the TF offered responsive road manners and superior handling, perfect for the club racing that became so popular after the war. Powered by the twin-carb inline-4 mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox, this 1954 MG TF roadster from the Verde Classics Car Museum is one of the most prized MGs of all time. It features British Racing Green paint with a lovely Tan interior and matching top, all nicely accented with chromed wire wheels and wide whitewall tires. The interior is classic MG: octagonal Jaeger instruments, folding windshield, a woodgrain steering wheel, bucket seats and front-opening “suicide” doors.
