Mercedes-Benz 230 SL cabriolet avec hardtop 1965

Châssis n° 113042 10 014270

Moteur n° 127981 10 011258

1965 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Convertible with Hardtop

Chassis no. 113042 10 014270

Engine no. 127981 10 011258

Beautifully finished in white with matching hardtop, black soft-top and matching M-B Tex interior, this stunning, manual transmission 230 SL left the factory on 26th November 1965. A landmark model that founded a sports car dynasty that would prove an enormous commercial success for Mercedes-Benz, the 230 SL was introduced at the Geneva Salon in March 1963. Replacement for the 190 SL, the newcomer abandoned its predecessor's four-cylinder engine in favour of a 2.3-litre fuel-injected six producing 150bhp.

An instant classic, the body design was all-new, while beneath the skin the running gear was conventional Mercedes-Benz, featuring all-round independent suspension (by swing axles at the rear), disc front/drum rear brakes, and a choice of four-speed manual or automatic transmissions. Top speed was in excess of 190km/h. Christened 'Pagoda' after their distinctive cabin shape, these SL models were amongst the best-loved sports-tourers of their day and continue to be highly sought after by collectors.

The car we offer underwent a comprehensive restoration of the bodywork and mechanicals in the period 2009 to 2013, which is documented by numerous photographs. The car still presents beautifully and has been awarded the coveted ASI 'Oro' certification. Additional documentation consists of a Mercedes-Benz Italia declaration; Italian registration documents; and the aforementioned ASI Certificato di Identita and restoration photographs.
