With origins predating World War I, the Maybach marque was acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1960. Reactivated as a standalone brand in 2002 but placed on hiatus during late 2011 in the wake of the last economic recession, Maybach was revived in November 2014 as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class lineup.
