A derivative of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship S-Class full-size luxury sedans, the first-generation CL-Class was introduced in 1992 and progressively evolved until the category’s discontinuation in 2014. The example on offer is a third-generation CL upgraded by Mercedes-Benz’s famed AMG performance division and features a 6.0L intercooled bi-turbo V-12 engine that produces a stunning 603 HP and 738 lb-ft of torque transmitted through a 5-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission. With AMG’s modified Active Body Control suspension system helping to keep the power on the ground, this potent powertrain is capable of rocketing the CL65 from 0-62 MPH in 4.4 seconds.
Brimming with technology, the third-generation CLs also featured the S-Class’s Distronic Plus cruise control system, which maintains a specified distance from the car in front, regardless of speed, and Mercedes-Benz’s innovative Active Night Vision, which utilizes an active infrared light system and in-dash LCD display in the instrument cluster to illuminate elements on the road that the human eye cannot see under prevailing light conditions. But as exclusive as the AMG version of the CL65 was, this particular example is even more special in that it is one of just 40 examples produced to commemorate AMG’s 40th anniversary.
This exclusive 40th Anniversary package includes: special Alubeam Liquid Metal paint, which makes the CL65 gleam like molten, liquid metal; AMG exclusive brown premium leather upholstery with diamond-pattern stitching; special 40th Anniversary badging; and a special “One out of 40” commemorative badge atop the central COMAND control stalk. Other notable features include “V12” embossing on the front headrests, carbon-fiber interior trim, carbon-fiber rear diffuser, 20-inch AMG double-spoke wheels, Keyless Go, power sunroof and a Harman Kardon sound system.
