Offered from the Michael Fux Collection of bespoke high-performance automobiles, this 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R presents in immaculate condition at a mere 324 miles, but that is just the opening credit in a long list of features that made this the ultimate track monster in the AMG lineup. The Mercedes-Benz performance arm aimed the GT R squarely at Porsche’s top offerings, a point Tobias Moers, Mercedes-AMG’s chairman and CEO, has happily and repeatedly stated to the motoring press. The GT R’s revised, twin-turbocharged, dry-sump 4.0L V-8 engine delivers 577 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque, 74 more HP and 37 lb-ft more than the GT S version, thanks to higher boost pressure from the larger BorgWarner turbochargers. Converting that power into performance is accomplished through the GT R’s combination of carbon fiber composite driveshaft, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with electronic limited-slip differential and dynamic management via the amalgamation of active engine mounts, electronic stability control, adaptive sport suspension and rear axle steering.
Where the rubber literally meets the road, the GT R shines with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on AMG Performance forged wheels. The GT R also brings looks and luxury to the mix. In this case, its beautifully aggressive carbon fiber contours radiate with shimmering Solarbeam Yellow metallic paint and matte-finish carbon fiber trim, LED exterior lighting with front adaptive high-beam assist. AMG shaved pounds through the extensive use of carbon fiber for such varied items as the power folding auto-dimming mirrors and fixed rear wing, with further savings from the titanium exhaust system.
Black Nappa leather with contrasting yellow stitching and seat belts decorates the GT R’s tailored interior, with eco-friendly Italian Dinamica fabric accenting the roof liner and steering wheel.
