With a tradition of luxury sporting saloons stretching back to 1963, Maserati's Quattroporte has always been the choice for true driving enthusiasts. 2003's fifth generation would set a high benchmark, with a sonorous soundtrack and a sumptuous leather interior that could only ever come from Italy. The first fruit of Ferrari's 1999 acquisition of Maserati and built on an entirely new platform, the exterior and interior design was the work of Pininfarina's Ken Okuyama, whose CV also includes the Ferrari Enzo.
The focal point is unquestionably the exotic M139 4244cc four-valve V8, developed jointly with Ferrari and featuring a flat-plane crankshaft and dry-sump lubrication, a version of which can be found in Ferrari's own 360 Modena. That engine is set deep into the chassis, and with the DuoSelect automated-manual mounted at the rear in a transaxle arrangement, weight distribution is an ideal 47/53 front-to-rear. With Skyhook adaptive damping and an impressive offering of fifteen exterior paint colours and ten for the Poltrona Frau leather interior, the Quattroporte is a truly unique sporting saloon.
A 2007 update saw the arrival of the ZF Six-Speed automatic transaxle, with the model remaining in production until 2012. Offered with its original German registration documents (Teil I and II), this Maserati Quattroporte has been in the ownership of its current owner since 2008 and shows only 66,403 km on the odometer. The car has been professionally maintained in the owner's private workshop. However, while it has benefited from regular care, it has been kept on static display in recent years. As such, it will require recommissioning before being returned to road use.
