The Lotus Elan was first introduced in 1962 as a drop head coupé and then as a fixed head coupé version in 1965. The Elan was technically advanced with its twin-cam 1558cc engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and 4-wheel independent suspension. It could reach 60mph in just 7.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 122mph. SE variants featured an increased power output of 118bhp and an upgraded close ratio gearbox.

The lightweight, powerful and agile performance make the Elan a great car to drive and even nowadays there are few cars more satisfying to drive.Chassis # 26/0149 offered here is a very rare example of an early Series 1 drop head coupe and is only the 149th car produced by the factory. This Series One Elan is believed to have been in single ownership from new up until 1995.

It was then the subject of a full chassis off restoration to return the car to its original specification in 1995, by Rob Marsh, and since the completion of this restoration the car has seen very little use.Restoration of the car included a galvanised chassis along with a bare fibreglass re-spray to retain and protect the Elan's original body shell, panels and doors. Great care was also taken to preserve the original interior including the seats, door panels, rubber mats, dashboard and dials.Presented with the car is a comprehensive history file that includes the original instruction manual, bills and recent history post restoration, along with old MOT's.

After its recent long term storage, the car has been recommissioned at Classic World Racing in July 2012 which included an engine out service, replacing gaskets and rectifying any oil leaks. The car is now on the button and comes with a fresh 12 months MOT.A very pretty, rare and difficult car to find in such original and superb condition.
