Lincoln Town Cars have long been a mainstay benchmark of American luxury, and this one, being a Cartier, is certainly a rare treat. For 1973, the Lincoln Continental Mark IV introduced the Luxury Group option, which allowed customers specially selected color-coordinated interiors, vinyl tops and exterior paints. Successful, the marketing campaign led to the Designer Series option for the 1976 model year, which was oddly the final year for the Mark IV. The Designer Series Mark IVs took the Luxury Group to another level with luxury brand designers such as Cartier, Bill Blass, Emilio Pucci and Givenchy working with Ford stylists and designers to create more exclusive Mark IVs.
The Designer Series Mark IVs included bespoke trims inside and out and used exclusive colors and materials, turning the already expensive coupe into an absolute statement. The Designer Series sustained through the ensuing generations, expanding to the Town Car and Continental in the 1980s, with Cartier seeming to be the most popular name with Lincoln customers across the board.
